This Toolbox effectively combines the competencies associated with the development, costing, prototyping and making of a piece of furniture to meet a customer’s needs. Learners have access to a virtual client and a virtual mentor who will guide them in the establishment of the project parameters. The original project brief does not identify all the facts required to complete the work and the ability to interact with the virtual client allows the learner to pose and pick questions resulting in the realistic scoping of the project.
The knowledge and skill elements of the competencies are created as ‘learning objects’ that can be accessed as a stand-alone resource. As 'development', 'costing', 'prototyping and the 'customised making of products' are skills common to many different occupations, this resource may be accessed in part or whole by learners from other industry sectors.
